Tips and Tricks for the Soap Maker :

I absolutely must tell you about my favorite soap-making ingredient: wheat germ oil. I use it very often in my recipes because it makes my soaps incredibly nourishing and gentle on my skin. And that's not all, I also add this magic oil to my day and night creams during the winter. It's the perfect duo to keep our skin well hydrated and protected from the rigors of the cold. Try it, and you'll see, your skin will thank you for being so pampered!

Unsaponifiables :

Unsaponifiables are oil components that do not become soap during the saponification process, and retain their original properties. The unsaponifiables in wheat germ oil mainly include vitamins, sterols and tocopherols (vitamin E).

  • Vitamin E (tocopherols): A powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells against the damaging effects of free radicals. Wheatgerm oil is particularly rich in vitamin E, which contributes to its anti-aging action and its ability to improve skin and hair health.
  • Plant sterols: These components improve the skin barrier, reduce inflammation and help maintain skin elasticity.

These unsaponifiables make wheat germ oil particularly beneficial for soap formulations, not only for its nourishing and protective effects, but also for its role in skin regeneration and rejuvenation.

Its saponification value
:

The saponification value of wheatgerm oil is 131, which means that 0.131 g of NAOH soda are needed to saponify 1 g of wheatgerm oil. This information will help you calculate your own recipe.

In your calculator, choose "Huile de Germe de Blé" or "Wheat germ Oil".

It's an unstable oil, so be careful not to exceed the percentage in your recipe. Its content in your recipe will be between 3% and 10% maximum.

Tips :

  • Moderate dosage: Use it in addition to other oils up to 10% in the formulation to avoid a soap that's too soft. It works very well in combination with harder oils such as coconut oil or shea butter.
  • Anti-aging soap: Combine it with anti-aging essential oils such as frankincense or lavender to create a targeted soap that will help fight the signs of aging.

Additions / Superfatting :

  • Exfoliating soap: Mix it with ground oats or seeds to make a gentle exfoliating soap, ideal for removing dead cells and revitalizing the complexion.
  • Enhancing aromas: Its light cereal scent blends well with essential oils with earthy or herbaceous notes. Think patchouli, cedar or geranium to complete its natural scent.
  • Adding to the trace : To maximize its nourishing and regenerative properties, add wheat germ oil to the trace rather than at the beginning of the oil mixture. This will preserve its vitamins and antioxidants.

Mussels:

Be aware that the reaction between soda and oils can generate heat. Use our special molds and monitor the temperature throughout the process to avoid freezing your soaps.

These molds are flexible, making them easy to remove from the mold once the soap has hardened. What's more, they enable better heat retention during the saponification process, promoting optimal soap setting.
