But what is the “Melt and Pour” soap base?
Melt and Pour soap is a fun, easy and affordable way to make homemade soaps. If you like creative activities or want to personalize your skincare products, this technique is ideal! But what exactly is Melt and Pour soap, and where does it come from?
A little history
The “Melt and Pour” concept emerged in the English-speaking world, particularly in the USA and UK, where manufacturers were looking for a simpler, safer alternative to traditional cold or hot saponification methods. This method relies on the use of a prefabricated soap base that has already undergone the saponification process. This is the chemical process that transforms oils and fats into soap using soda (or lye).
With Melt and Pour, you avoid handling these substances directly, making it a particularly safe technique, even for children, when supervised.
How does it work?
The beauty of Melt and Pour soap lies in its simplicity. You start with a ready-to-use soap base (usually enriched with glycerine, which gives it moisturizing properties).
Simply melt it, add colorants, essential oils or exfoliants (such as poppy seeds or coffee grounds), then pour into molds(
Once the soap has cooled and hardened, it’s ready for immediate use, unlike other methods which require a “cure” time of several weeks.
Why choose our Melt and Pour soap base?
What attracts many people to this method is its ease. Unlike traditional soap, there’s no need to manipulate and calculate your recipes, or wait weeks before using your creation. You can let your imagination run wild, creating fun shapes and combining unique colors and textures. What’s more, this method is ideal for introducing children to homemade cosmetics under adult supervision.
A customizable product
Melt and Pour soap is highly customizable. You can choose from a variety of bases, such as those enriched with goat’s milk, shea butter or even oat milk, to bring specific benefits to your skin. You can also incorporate essential oils, vegetable butters such as cocoa butter, or nourishing oils such as sweet almond oil.
A fun, eco-friendly pastime
As well as being a fun pastime, this method allows you to create skin-friendly products that are often more natural than commercial soaps. The base is often rich in glycerine, a natural humectant that helps maintain skin hydration, an element sometimes absent from industrial soaps.
This makes Melt and Pour soap a great way to get started making homemade soaps, while keeping the process safe, quick and fun!
