Tips and tricks for the soap-maker:

Castor oil is a must in your homemade soap recipe. Not only does it add hardness and incredible lather to the soap, it also offers you all the benefits for your skin.

Our teenage friends will love this soap!

Unsaponifiables:

  • Vitamin E (tocopherols): Provides antioxidant protection that helps prevent free-radical damage to the skin, and prolongs product durability by preventing oils from going rancid.
  • Phytosterols:
    • Beta-sitosterol: Has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, beneficial for irritated and sensitive skin.
    • Campesterol: Helps reduce skin inflammation and may improve the skin's protective barrier.
  • Triglycerides: Although technically not unsaponifiable, the triglycerides in Castor Oil contribute to the skin's richness and hydration, making it soft and smooth.
  • Ricinoleic fatty acids: This compound unique to Ricin Oil has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, as well as being an excellent moisturizing agent.

Its saponification value:

The saponification value of castor oil is 127, which means that 0.127 g of NAOH soda are needed to saponify 1 g of castor oil. This information will help you calculate your own recipe.

In your calculator, choose "Huile de Ricin" or "Castor oil".

This oil is sensitive to oxidation, so its content in your recipe should be 2% to 15% maximum.

The ideal in each recipe is 10%.

Tips and tricks:

Mix Castor Oil with other vegetable oils to balance its properties and obtain a balanced soap.

For example, combine it with olive oil for a creamy texture.

Castor oil promotes gel formation in soap. Watch the saponification process carefully to decide whether to encourage or avoid glycerine rivers. Let your castor oil soap stand longer during the cure period to allow complete saponification and better foam formation.

Additions/ Overfatting:

  • Slightly oil your soap using a higher percentage of Castor Oil to obtain a more nourishing and moisturizing soap.
  • Saponification temperature: Maintain a moderate temperature during the process, between 35°C and 40°C, to promote a good reaction without accelerating the trace.

Our plant and clay extracts are perfectly integrated into your preparation.

The trace:

Add Castor Oil at the end of the trace to prevent it from slowing down the saponification process and to maximize its benefits for the lather. By following these tips, you'll be able to make the most of castor oil's properties in your handcrafted soaps, while achieving high-quality results.

Mussels:

Be aware that the reaction between soda and oils can generate heat. Use our special molds and monitor the temperature throughout the process to avoid freezing your soaps.

Our molds are flexible, making them easy to remove from the mold once the soap has hardened. What's more, they enable better heat distribution during the saponification process, promoting optimal soap setting.
