However, because of certain particularities of this oil, here are a few tips for using it effectively in your homemade soap recipes:
Unsaponifiables
- Natural antioxidants: like tocopherols (vitamin E), they help protect skin against oxidative stress and external aggression.
- Triterpenes: Include nimbin, nimbidin and nimbinene, renowned for their soothing and purifying properties.
- Carotenoids: Precursors of vitamin A, they support skin renewal and help strengthen the skin's protective barrier.
Its saponification value
The saponification value of Neem Oil is 139, which means that 0.139 g of NAOH soda are needed to saponify 1 g of Neem Oil.
This information will help you calculate your own recipe.

Its content in your recipe will be between 2% and 30% maximum.
Tips and tricks:
- Quantity moderation: Incorporate Neem Oil at a rate of 2% to 10% of the total oils in your recipe to benefit from its properties without its strong odour dominating the finished product. If you wish to increase the percentage, be aware that the odor will be very present. Which is interesting if you want to make an anti-lice soap for your children!
- Preparing the Oil: Neem Oil is pasty and can be solid at low temperatures. Heat it gently in a bain-marie without exceeding 60°C. The Neem Oil will become liquid and easy to incorporate into your recipe.
- Our containers and labels are designed for immersion in water baths.
- Use of Essences: Because of its spicy, powerful scent, consider using essential oils that can harmonize or mask its fragrance. Essential oils such as lavender, tea tree or mint are good options.
The additions:
Take advantage of Neem Oil's purifying and balancing properties to formulate soaps suited to skin prone to imperfections.
Its incorporation can enrich your creations by providing targeted benefits.
Neem oil can be added between 5% and 10% (up to 30% depending on the formulation) at the end of the trace to preserve its properties.
Provides a fine foam and has a distinctive odour.
Mussels:
Be aware that the reaction between soda and oils can generate heat. Use our special molds and monitor the temperature throughout the process to prevent your soaps from freezing.
These molds are flexible, making them easy to remove from the mold once the soap has hardened. What's more, they enable better heat retention during the saponification process, promoting optimal soap setting.
