Tips and Tricks for the Soap Maker :
Sesame oil is my favorite oil to use when I'm creating recipes especially for my daughter. Her atopic skin needs special care, and sesame oil is the perfect choice. Not only is it soft and nourishing, it's also easy to incorporate into my craft creations. The effects on her skin are surprising, bringing welcome relief to her irritations. That's why I put so much emphasis on this precious oil in my soap products.
- Moisture and softness: Rich in essential fatty acids that deeply nourish and moisturize the skin. By incorporating sesame oil into your soap, you can help prevent skin dryness and leave skin soft and supple after use.
- Emollient properties: Thanks to its rich texture and ability to penetrate skin easily, sesame oil gives soap a creamy, luxurious feel. It leaves a protective film on the skin, helping to retain moisture and protect the cutaneous barrier.
- Soothing irritation: Sesame oil has soothing properties that can help calm skin irritation and redness. By adding sesame oil to your soap, you can create a gentle, soothing product, suitable even for sensitive skin or skin prone to reactions.
- Stability and longevity: Sesame oil is relatively stable and has a longer shelf life than some other vegetable oils. By incorporating it into your soap, you can help extend the life of your skincare products while preserving their beneficial properties.
- Soft, creamy lather: Although sesame oil doesn't produce an abundant lather like some other oils, it does contribute to a soft, creamy lather that effectively cleanses the skin without drying or irritating it.
Unsaponifiables:
Sesame oil is rich in beneficial components, including its unsaponifiables, which offer particular benefits for the skin, especially in products such as soaps. Here are the main unsaponifiable active ingredients in sesame oil:
- Sesamol and sesamolinol: These powerful antioxidants help protect the skin against free radical damage and can improve soap durability by preventing oils from going rancid.
- Vitamin E (tocopherols): Protects the skin against environmental damage and helps maintain the skin's moisture barrier.
- Phytosterols (beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol):
-
- Beta-sitosterol: Offers soothing and repairing properties, ideal for sensitive and irritated skin.
- Stigmasterol: Also contributes to skin health by reducing inflammation and promoting better hydration.
- Lignans (sesamin, sesamolin):
-
- Sesamin: Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties help protect and nourish the skin.
- Sesamolin: Acts in a similar way to sesamin, reinforcing the protective and nourishing effects of the oil.
Its saponification value
:
The saponification value of sesame oil is 129, which means that 0.129 g of NAOH soda are needed to saponify 1 g of sesame oil. This information will help you calculate your own recipe.
In your calculator, choose "Sesame oil" or "Huile de Sésame".
It's a stable oil with a long shelf life, so our soaps will also have an amazing longevity. Its content in your recipe will be between 4% and 20% maximum.
Tips :
Mix Sesame oil with other skin-friendly oils, such as Olive oil or Coconut oil, to obtain a balanced, nourishing soap.
.
Sesame oil can be used as a base oil in your soap recipe, or as a complement to other oils to benefit from its moisturizing and soothing properties.
Additions / Superfatting :
When I make my recipe with this oil, I don't hesitate to add chia seeds or green coffee peel. This makes a first-rate exfoliating shower soap.
Mussels:
Be aware that the reaction between soda and oils can generate heat. Use our special molds and monitor the temperature throughout the process to avoid freezing your soaps.
Our molds are flexible, making them easy to remove from the mold once the soap has hardened. What's more, they enable better heat retention during the saponification process, promoting optimal soap setting.
