Its appearance:
- Appearance: Dark green to light brown oily liquid
- Odour: nutty, earthy aroma
- Texture: Rich yet non-greasy, it quickly penetrates the skin, leaving a feeling of hydration without greasy residue.
Trace management
- Controlled temperature: Make sure your oils and lye (or washing-up liquid) are at a similar, moderate temperature (37-43°C). This allows better integration of the Tamanu oil without accelerating the trace.
- Adding to the trace: introduce Tamanu oil at the end of the light trace rather than at the beginning of the mixture. This helps maintain its beneficial properties and prevents it from reacting too quickly with the detergent.
- Formulation: Balance the recipe with oils that reach the trace more quickly, such as Coconut Butter or Shea Butter.
Additions / Superfatting:
- Additives: Additives such as sugar, honey, plant extracts or milk can accelerate the trace. If you find that Tamanu oil slows down the process too much, consider adding one of these ingredients in small quantities to adjust the saponification speed.
