Tip from Savonnière:

Integration of Mica Powder :

  • Can be mixed into hot oils or butters before adding sodium hydroxide (NaOH).

  • Can be added to soap paste after mixing (when the trace has appeared).

Techniques for Seasoned Soap Makers:

  • Divide your soap paste into beakers.

  • Add to each beaker the quantity of mica required to obtain the desired color.

  • Mix your mica well with your soap paste (don't leave any lumps).

  • Select and prepare your molds in advance on your work surface.

  • Alternate colors when pouring your paste to create a quick and easy marbling effect.

  • Check out our articles on our " soapmakers' blog " to discover the different marbling techniques (One pot - Baguette).

Effects of Vegetable Oils on Color:

  • Some vegetable oils may slightly alter the color of mica due to their base hue.

  • Example: Tamanu oil, which is dark green, will turn soap paste from light to dark green (as with olive oil).

  • Before creating your recipe, consider that your oils are already coloring your dough.

Personal tips :

  • I always add white clay to my oils before adding the soda solution to preserve the scents longer and lighten my soap paste slightly.

  • When mixing your micas into the soap paste, add them gradually to adjust to the desired color.
Bear in mind that during the cure, the colors of the Mica Powder may lighten slightly.
